PI System resources information
Helping manufacturers get more from their investment in OSIsoft PI system is the focus of the PI-tential pages of the RoviSys website. The tips and case histories on these pages first appeared in the PI-tential e-newsletter published eight to ten times per year.

PI System benefits and challenges

Open connectivity, speed and flexibility explain why there are more than 14,000 PI System installations. With PI, you can collect data from all the equipment in your plant, create practically any report and send information to your plant and business systems. It is a true process historian.

One challenge with PI System is the same as with any other manufacturing historian: determining which information to report. Another for PI is selecting the right reporting tool. We hope the tips and case histories assist you with these and other issues.

PI System tip

When configuring OSIsoft PI System OPC interface tags to collect data from many Rockwell Automation PLCs and controllers, pay attention to the tag scan classes. If the OPC values are collected by PI on a polled basis, scan class configuration can significantly impact PLC communication performance.

Pi System case history

Automating reports is usually easier and more flexible in PI than the historian included with your control system (unless it's PI!). Read how a life sciences company is using PI Datalink to deliver quarterly batch exception reports to the FDA.
