Industrial AI: Transforming Manufacturing

Bryan DeBois, Director of Industrial AI at RoviSys, joined hosts George and Deana on the Lights on Data Show to discuss the evolving role of AI in manufacturing. During the conversation, Bryan highlighted the unique challenges industrial companies face when adopting AI, including risk aversion, long equipment lifecycles, and the urgent need to capture expert knowledge before experienced workers retire. He also outlined key drivers for AI adoption, from mitigating the impact of the "silver tsunami" workforce gap to optimizing well-established manufacturing processes.

The discussion explored the three major AI categories in industrial settings: traditional AI (including anomaly detection and predictive maintenance), autonomous AI agents capable of making human-like decisions, and the potential—but current limitations—of generative AI on the plant floor. Bryan also emphasized the importance of AI readiness, from robust data infrastructure to secure, plant-floor-deployable models that operate independently of cloud connectivity.
